It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling recently with their play, despite having Anthony Davis back in the starting lineup. Davis, who has returned in just his third game back, played solid enough finishing with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists against the Orlando Magic in last night’s win. Six Lakers finished the night in double figures, but it took the heroics of Dennis Schroder down the stretch to secure the victory for the Lakers. Schroder finished the game with 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 10 assists. He really got his teammates involved and made some key shots when they counted.
Drummond continues to be effective when it comes to cleaning up the glass as he had another double-double. The Lakers definitely have to be better on the defensive end, especially against a team like the Orlando Magic who rank near the bottom of the league when it comes to offense at 29th. At times, the team played a little too relaxed letting the Magic in the game and them ultimately taking the lead at points during the game. With Drummond and Davis forming a big tandem, things like that shouldn’t happen. Overall, both teams shot the ball evenly in field goal percentage and three pointers. The Lakers still continue to struggle from the free throw line only making 64% of them. They’re still figuring out how to play with Davis, especially Drummond who came to the Lakers in the buyout market, but played without Davis beside him for some games.
Offensively, the Lakers aren’t exactly lighting up the league as they rank a mere 21st in offensive rating. LeBron James is getting closer to returning, so hopefully having their leader back and having everyone at 100% health will definitely boost the team in that category. The Lakers are still a formidable team defensively as they still rank first, but they need to come together a play much better. They shouldn’t be having such a hard time putting away teams that won’t even make the playoffs. It was a struggle last night, but the Lakers really needed that win.
