Despite going 0-3 in the California classic in Sacramento for the start of summer league play, the Lakers rookies have done well. Getting used to the NBA game certainly takes time, but the two draft picks seem to be adjusting just fine. Last night, the Lakers got their first win of summer league defeating the Sixers 96-79, led by Josh Hart, Svi Mykhailiuk and Moe Wagner. The start of Vegas summer league means that the Lakers quest to defend their title from a year ago begins. Josh Hart, who’s already had NBA experience, finished with 24 pts and showed how his game has evolved. Hart said he wants to play more summer league games, but the way he’s played he doesn’t have to prove anything else.

Svi Mykhailiuk netted 17 pts for the Lakers with his precision shooting. The Lakers wanted shooting and drafting him looks like it was a very good move. But that’s not all Svi can do. He also hit the glass hard and ended up with 9 rebounds. If the Lakers wanted shooting, it looks like Svi might be their guy. Moe Wagner also had a good game and contributed with 16 pts and 8 rebounds. The highlight of the night is when Wagner got a steal and dunked it emphatically on a fast break. On the way back to play defense, he started to rile up the crowd by putting his arms up in the air to get the crowd to stand up. He’s quickly becoming one of the Lakers fan favorites. The other draft pick the Lakers picked up was Isaac Bonga who struggled quite a bit. Bonga has only been with the team for a couple of days, so him not playing well was kind of expected. He made a couple of plays, but his game is still very raw and needs a lot of development. Hopefully this win will get the team going for another summer league title run.
