This past Tuesday, LiAngelo Ball (younger brother of Lonzo Ball) worked out for the team that he hopes to be drafted by. As expected, there was a lot of attention during his workout with the Lakers. Older brother Lonzo was on hand to watch the workout. LiAngelo finished his short stint in Europe playing for Vytautas Prienai–Birštonas a Lithuanian basketball team before declaring himself for the NBA draft. There, LiAngelo averaged 12.6 ppg, 0.8 apg, 2.9 rpg and shot 42% from 3-pt range. Coming into these workouts, there were rumors around the league that execs have their doubts about LiAngelo and that the Lakers were no exception. During an interview at the Lakers practice facility, LiAngelo had said that playing in Europe had better prepared him coming into the workouts stating that playing around grown men helped his game.
Just like other NBA teams, the Lakers do their homework and take a look at numerous prospects. As good a shooter LiAngelo is, he may not be NBA ready.
According to USA Today, “LiAngelo Ball worked out for the team earlier this week, but according to the report, the Lakers are not interested in drafted or signing ball – for their NBA team or their G-League affilate, the South Bay Lakers.
Ball, 19, said he wants to play with his brother on Lakers, but also worked out for the Golden State Warriors this week.”
There are rumors that the Lakers are enamored with big man Mitchell Robinson. LiAngelo could find himself on another team, or possibly find a spot in the G-League. Right now, his dreams of playing along side his brother and the Lakers are postponed.
