Lakers get blown out by Clippers, 125-101
We had hoped to see the Lakers finish off the first half of the season on a good note. Unfortunately, the Lakers were romped by the other LA team - the Clippers. It would be a tough match up for the Lakers going up against the Clippers, who have recently gotten healthy again. With Billups and Paul in the back court, it's a tough task for any team to guard. The Lakers had five players in double figures with Bryant leading the way with 20pts and 11ast. Howard had 18pts, 8rbs, and Jamison off the bench contributed with 17pts. Again, turnovers has been the Achilles heel all season for the Lakers in which they had 16. Its too much to have, especially against a team like the Clips who thrive off turnovers.
The Lakers got into a big whole in the first quarter, at one point being down 13-0. When they dig themselves into a hole like that early, it puts a lot of pressure and energy on the team to try and come back and win. During the 2nd quarter, the Lakers made a great run with the bench leading the comeback. When the starters came back in, the Lakers fell back behind and just couldn't overcome the lead the Clippers had obtained. A short handed Lakers team just didn't have enough to beat the Clips who were shooting lights out from 3-point range. They hit sixteen 3-pointers. The defense was poor for the Lakers once again. Shots weren't being contested enough. The Lakers have now lost to BOS, MIA, LAC, all who are considered elite teams in the NBA. The Lakers must find a way to play better basketball in the second half of the season, otherwise they might find themselves having an early vacation.
The Lakers will take 5 days off because of the All-Star break. Bryant and Howard are both headed to Houston for the All-Star game. The other Laker players will probably hit the hardwood for practice and get ready for next Wednesday's match up with the rival Celtics at Staples.
