Lakers escape Detroit with a 98-97 win

The third stop on the Lakers road trip was Detroit, Michigan. The Lakers executed extremely well during the first half of the game. Gasol had a team-high 23 points, with 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Kobe came in with the second highest at 18 points. Five Laker players were in double digits, and the bench contributed 32 points combined. You would think by now, that the Lakers would learn how to close out games. Once again, they squandered a lead in the last quarter. It has become a bad habit for this team, and it's something that they have to fix immediately. They cant continue to give away leads, especially against the elite teams in the NBA. The next two upcoming games are against two pretty good teams in the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics.

The recent bench play has kept the Lakers in games. Starters are also doing a good job of creating the lead early. The team has to find a way to muster up some energy during the last two quarters of the game. Recently, the offense has become stale, and the defense begins to break down. These games have become close wins for the Lakers.

Howard did not play in yesterday's game, and is questionable for tomorrow's game against the Brooklyn Nets. So far, the Lakers have held their own without Dwight Howard. They will surely need his services in these upcoming tough road games.
